» Academics
On Friday, the Fellows meet for two classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. By completing the academic part of the program, Fellows receive 12 graduate-level credits from Trinity School for Ministry and a Certificate in Christian Leadership. The courses challenge students to apply Christian apologetics and leadership concepts to their daily work experience. Interactions with co-workers, friends, other Fellows, and ministry leaders provide rich material for discussion. Skills such as giving presentations, leading discussions, and researching information are valuable in the business setting also. Fellows are expected to write professionally, work diligently, and think critically.
2009/2010 class offerings:
Engaging Your Culture
Instructor: Rich Herbster
With an emphasis on apologetics, this class looks at different worldviews, ideologies, cultural conditions, and their relationship to the Christian faith. Critically thinking about the implications of different ideas, Fellows then apply ideas to defending Christianity.
The City and Servant Leadership
An introduction to the “city,” or urban environments in general, (with particular attention to Pittsburgh, PA), this course examines the construction of values in cities, and proposes servanthood as the core of Christian leadership in the city. Class sessions include lectures, discussions, and field trips throughout Pittsburgh.
Leadership Studies
Instructor: Becca Chapman
Christian executives present guest lectures on effective leadership. Students explore how to serve Christ and influence others as leaders in the marketplace. Discussions and readings supplement personal ideas on how the Fellows can impact the character of a business both now and in the future.
Dialogue with Media
Instructor: Jack Gabig
The course raises awareness of the powerful role of contemporary media in American culture and how it can impact a Christian’s worldview. The objective of the course is to prepare Fellows to deal with money, sex, and power issues as mature and faithful Christians.
