Fellows Community Housing

» Fellows Community Housing

Unlike the National Fellows norm of placing Fellows in church members’ homes, the Pittsburgh Fellows live in apartments and houses rented exclusively for Fellows’ use. The program pays all rents and utilities, as well as provides basic amenities including beds, dressers, washer and dryer.

While the Fellows are relieved of paying rent, they are expected to pay for food and their own health insurance. This creates a great transition from “college dorm living” to independence, as one still has other roommates and does not carry all the financial burden, yet each Fellow must cook and clean, taking care of the apartment. Fellows are responsible for general lawn care and snow shoveling, as well as taking the initiative to be good neighbors.
