One of the most important aspects of my Fellows’ experience is the intentional Christian community built around me. I am a people person who loves being surrounded by others. As a Fellow, I have the privilege of living with four other women in a charming Victorian home, and the men in our cohort live right next door. It would be easy to feel lonely after graduating and leaving my college friends, but being a part of this community keeps those feelings away.
I’m growing in my ability to be open with others, and enjoying all of the opportunities to socialize through the many group activities that happen each week. Living with the Fellows and in the Sewickley community has caused me to come out of my comfort zone and say “yes” to new experiences, most of them things I wouldn’t have experienced if I wasn’t living with them.
Living in such close proximity makes it easy to spend quality time with one another and develop authentic relationships. The female friendships I am making are particularly meaningful. Since we all live under one roof, we’ve had many times to do activities together like shopping, puzzles, and eating dinner. These little moments are meaningful to me because we talk about our days, our feelings and our faith. I’ve grown very close to the four other women in the house in these past two months!
Our cohort is not the only place where I am finding strong Christian community. The congregation and leaders of St. Stephen’s Church exemplify hospitality and have made a real effort to get to know all 10 of us. On our “Welcome to St. Stephen’s” dinner night, we were
greeted by a large crowd of friendly faces and I met many church members who were curious to get to know me. I serve in the hospitality ministry at St. Stephen’s and am encouraged weekly by the people who make time for conversation as they come to pour a cup of coffee.
In the past two months, living in a community has been very uplifting. I’m so thankful that
God has placed me with this group of Fellows and brought me to the Christian community that surrounds me. I’m looking forward to growing closer to the community around me during the remaining seven months.
